How is oral surgery carried out?

All our oral surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic.

If you would prefer to have a general anaesthetic (when you are put completely to sleep), we can refer you to your local hospital. However, our dentists are very experienced and gentle and we would encourage you to try and have the procedure under local anaesthetic first. Any general anaesthetic has potential risks and side effects so it’s best to avoid if you can.

I had to have a tooth extracted and was very, very nervous. However, my dentist reassured me that if at any time I wanted her to stop, all I had to do was raise my hand. The needles were painless, all I felt was a rocking motion while the tooth was being eased out and I couldn't believe it when she said, 'That's it,' and there was my tooth cleanly extracted. I will no longer fear having any treatment.
